Bomanite History

Bomanite has been the leading brand in the architectural concrete flooring and paving industry for more than 50 years. The Bomanite Company promotes the Bomanite brand and it’s network of over 125 specially trained and licensed contractors that service Specifiers architectural concrete needs. This highly skilled network of concrete craftsmen alone have access to the resources and experience of literally hundreds of creative, qualified Bomanite Licensed Contracto rs around the world, as well as product and technical support from The Bomanite Company. This combination of experience, resources and support provides unbeatable quality, value and service.

The Bomanite process, the original cast-in-place, colored, textured and imprinted architectural concrete paving, was developed in the mid 1950's by Brad Bowman. Bowman, who had studied sculpture and was a camouflage expert in World War II, went into the construction business after the war. Not long after, he developed an early imprinting method that he called “ornamented concrete” and initially used it on the sidewalks of Carmel, California. Several California contractors used the Bomanite process in the 60’s. The technique was deceptively simple in concept. The V-shaped blades of a metal stamping platform imprint a pattern on fresh concrete. By using at least two stamping units, the first stamp can be removed and placed next to the second stamp to produce a continuously printed decorative pattern.

Today, The Bomanite Company provides many of the components used in the Bomanite Systems, which include the original imprinted concrete process. Our Denver facility houses and manufactures the original imprinting tools used in the Bomanite Imprint and Toppings Systems. In the United States our toll-blending facilities, located throughout the U.S. to provide more readily accessible products to our network of licensed contractors, produce dry-shake color hardener, integral color, release agents, toppings such as micro-topping and stampable overlays, chemical stains, concrete dyes, sealers and various other products for the installation of architectural concrete. Our staff provides ongoing support services and conducts trainings on the Bomanite Systems innovative products and application procedures for our Licensed Contractors.
