Bomanite Featured Project
The Road to Mies Outland is Paved With Bomanite
When
it came time for Mies Outland of Watkins, Minn. to
do a major building expansion, they called on Bulach
Construction, the Bomanite Licensed Contractor in Inver
Grove Heights to provide a custom showroom floor. Bulach
Construction worked in conjunction with the owners
of Mies Outland and Welman Sperides Architects to make
the expansion a reality and turn this showroom floor
into a showpiece by itself. With the addition of more
than 14,000 square feet of Bomanite imprinted and decorative
concrete, Bulach Construction catapulted the Mies Outland
display area from fine to fabulous.
The demands of this project made Bomanite the perfect
choice for flooring in this huge indoor showroom, which
was built attached to the existing showroom. Because
of the versatility Bomanite brings, Bulach Construction
was able to design the flooring to reflect the great
outdoors, a theme rampant at Mies Outland. The new
flooring mimicked stone, wood planks and even a street,
all made out of concrete, and all under the same roof.
To ensure the floor would be not only beautiful, but
strong enough to withstand pedestrian and light vehicular
traffic, Bomanite color hardeners were used throughout.
The flooring project began with pouring a four-riser
bullnose step, which also utilized color hardener to
color and harden them. A sponge finish was applied
to add depth and interest. The remaining areas of the
showroom boast three different Bomanite patterns, used
in harmony to present an open, earthy atmosphere.
The first portion of the slab was stamped with a Wood
Plank pattern. After this area cured out, several alcohol
stains, developed by The Bomanite Company specifically
for Bulach Construction, were applied to highlight
individual boards.
The next area of the floor to be designed was the “street”,
which was achieved by pouring a black integral colored
floor with a smooth trowel finish. Bomanite Micro-Top,
in white and yellow, was used to create road markings,
making the indoor concrete “street” more
realistic. The street divided the wood plank portion
from the largest area of the floor, which was stamped
with two Bomanite stone patterns and colored with several
color hardeners. The final step in this unique project
was to sandblast 12 individual logos into the floor.
This project is a good example of the way Bomanite
